Vinz Pascua

Vinz Pascua’s background as an artist and designer began in high school, where he was actively involved in various events and clubs throughout his six-year tenure. He studied at Philippine Science High School - Main Campus, specializing in Biology, Engineering, and Technology during his later years. Given the science-oriented nature of Pisay, his family expected him to pursue a career as a scientist, like his grand-uncle, National Scientist Dr. Angel C. Alcala, during his time there. However, he ultimately discovered his passion and initial skills as an artist and designer. Early breakthroughs during this period included designing the first Philippine Science High School Main Campus Sablay and the current Specialization Years Program uniform. He also participated in multiple committees, such as TEDxYouthPSHSMain, Karimlan Fair 2019, and the 2021 Yearbook Committee, where he led the Design subcommittee.

Vinz Pascua graduated with Distinction from The University of Sydney, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture in 2025. As a student at USYD, he was a member of the Filipino Student Society of the University of Sydney (FSS USYD) and served as its Creative Director in 2023. His time at USYD, and in Australia as a whole, was transformative, especially as a Filipino. During this period, he began to learn more about the Philippines, exploring its pre-colonial roots and modern contemporaries. Despite living far from home, this experience allowed him to embrace his Filipino identity more fully and share it with the world. It began with simple promotional posts for FSS USYD, but he eventually integrated this focus into his coursework, tackling projects on tropical housing and analyzing patterns in Philippine textiles.

Currently, Vinz Pascua serves as the Chief Design Officer of Birds in Focus, Inc. (BIF), overseeing the Haring Ibon brand. His latest design works for Haring Ibon include the Haring Ibon Playing Cards, the Haring Ibon Philippine Wildlife Playing Cards, the Philippine Flora Umbrella, Discovery Cards, a bunch of Sticker Sheets featuring Philippine Flora and Fauna, Graphic tee collections made with Balinsasayaw Twin Lakes and Paoay Lake Natural Park, and his book, Birds of Subic Bay.

His contributions to Haring Ibon and BIF have been instrumental in the company’s new direction, particularly in its latest publications and the development of in-house illustrations for various brand-new items. This role has also enabled him to collaborate and build partnerships across the archipelago, including the likes of La Mesa Ecopark, Balinsasayaw Twin Lakes Farmers Association, Inc., Ocean Adventure Subic Bay, Birdwing Puerto Princesa, Paoay Lake Protected Landscape, and the Quezon City Government and Baguio City Government.

In 2026, his work on the Haring Ibon Playing Cards won the RED AWARD for Image-making at the 2026 Good Design Award Philippines, awarded by DTI-Design Center of the Philippines. To date, he is one of the youngest recipients of the prestigious Good Design Award. That year, his work on another product vying for the same award, the Haring Ibon Trading Cards: Birds of the Calamianes with the Regalo ng Kilit Foundation, was shortlisted for the 2026 Good Design Award Philippines.
